I decided to start the business because I really wanted to do something that was unique, held my passion, and actually applied things I have done in four years of high school,” Nalla said.

As a State Officer and member of Future Business Leaders of America, Nalla obtained the skills he needed to manage the business. Combining his business know-how with his interest in fashion led to the conception of the business.

“The business plan has always been to sell vests and ties to customers who could then keep their products forever rather than rent them for a couple days,” Nalla said.

To get the busienss started, he had to register it with the Secretary of State and obtain an employer ID.

Though Nalla has only made one sale so far, he expects sales to increae as prom approaches.

“Another group I hope to target are FBLA members and DECA members who need matching ties and vests for competition,” Nalla said. “When I competed that was always something the judges noticed and complimented us on, which gave us a competitive edge over the opponent.”

Rather than rent expensive clothes just for prom, Nalla’s customers can purchase clothing to match their prom dates for cheaper than most rental prices, and not have to return it afterwards.

Sri estimates that he has spent about 20 hours per week for the last two months to get the website up and running. He advertises it on Twitter, and soon plans to create flyers and other forms of advertisement. Nalla says he needs to sell 20 ties and 20 vests to break even on his investment.

“I literally have stared at Prom dresses alone for hours doing research on colors in the library,” Nalla said, “causing people that walk by to give me weird looks.”
