A Spot to Belong

Zander Robinett ’19 and his group in the Management Strategies business class founded a company called A Spot to Belong Jan. 2019. The nonprofit company donates all its profits to the Lauren Townsend Foundation, but more specifically the Lauren Townsend Wildlife and Scholarship Fund. Lauren Townsend was the first person shot in the library at Columbine High School during the shooting 20 years ago. Townsend’s family set up her foundation.

Zander Robinett ’19, the CEO of A Spot to Belong, wears his company’s sweater and holds the sticker. Robinett and his group in their Management Strategies class started the company in memory of Lauren Townsend, the first person shot and killed in the Columbine High School library during the shooting 23 years ago. “[The sweaters] are super soft and super comfy,” Robinett said.

The company created sweatshirts through non-profit organization ‘Junior Achievement’ for the 20th anniversary of the Columbine shooting. “The three boys that actually went and did the shooting felt out of place and that they didn’t belong in the school and within the school community,” Robinett said. “Our company is named A Spot to Belong because just like on a jaguar, it takes every spot to make the whole jaguar, and it takes every person in our Rock Canyon community to make our Rock Canyon community. Every spot is unique just like every unique person.”

The group ordered the sweatshirts through the American Athletic sports company, owned by Bruce Beck, Lauren Townsend’s step father. Robinett has known Beck for a long time.

To purchase a sweater, find Zander, Tiffany Ballentine, Aaron Schulz, Cameron Seaquist, Simon Miller or Daniel Woodly, or go to room 4114, business teacher Janna Robinett’s room. Sweaters are $30 a piece, and the stickers are $5.  The group takes credit cards or cash in room 4114.
