Bon.. Bon.. BonFire

Lighting the sky

by Maja Hall, Writer

September 29th of 2016, Rock Canyon High School fire science students lit the sky for the night. With Homecoming in a few days, October 1st, Jags all got excited for the annual bonfire to begin. Before the Fire Science students began lighting the night away, I got to talk to Chief Piccone; The fire science teacher.

– Question: How do you prepare for something like this?

  • Piccone, “I teach these guys about fire science for one thing, and emergency medical, and we,ve been practicing this hose lay and this evolution since the beginning of school. And by the end of they year. At the end of the year, they’ll be going into a container full of fire and they’ll be going into a burn building which is a lot more difficult and technical than this. But, we practice this stuff; We study. And that’s how we prepare. “

-Question: How excited are you and your team for this?

  • Piccone, ” Oh, I love this every year. It’s a good time for them. The first time they get to see real good sized fire.”
