A Sweet Treat on a Tropical Day

Students eat from the Kona Ice Truck as a part of Homecoming Week’s “Tropical Florida Monday” Sept. 18.

Music blasts.

Parker Sarro ’27 pours syrup over her ice from the Kona Ice Truck during first lunch Sept. 18. Sarro got a combination of four syrup flavors. “I got a classic, and I got blue raspberry, tiger’s blood, pina colada and cotton candy,” Sarro said. “I like those colors and [the ice] a lot.” (media by Claire Bauer)
Money is exchanged for cups, syrup is drizzled over ice and spoons are dug into sweet treats.

The second day of Homecoming Week, “Tropical Floriday Monday,” took place Monday, Sept. 17. Students were encouraged to wear tropical gear, such as leis, Hawaiian shirts and shell jewelry.

As a part of the spirit day, Kona Ice came during both lunches, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The truck stationed itself in the upper lot and offered small, medium or large cups of ice with syrup for $5, $6 or $7 respectively.

Syrup flavor options included blue raspberry, pina colada, cotton candy, grape and more.

“[The truck] is fun, but I think it could be a little cheaper. I don’t think it’s worth like $5,” Parker Sarro ’27 said.
