Varsity shooting and point guard Mac Terry ‘24 plays defense on a Mountain Vista guard Dec. 2. The Jaguars defeated the Golden Eagles 54-49. “The team can play better defense, and play a better half of [the game]. If we can figure out what to do in the first half and keep doing what we’re doing [for] the second half, we happily finish out games,” Terry said.

The boys are back.

Boys varsity basketball opened up their season with a home game win 85-54 against Rampart High School Nov. 29. Shooting guard Kasen Lehman ‘25 had 30 points in the game, leading the offense in scoring.

Next, the Jaguars defeated the Grandview High School Wolves in another win 59-54 Dec. 1. Shooting and point guard Mac Terry ‘24 led the team in scoring, with 21 points.

“We are still not anywhere close to playing our best basketball yet,” varsity center Nolan Kliewer ‘24 said. “We still have lots of room to get better and play better as the season goes on. We’ll keep getting better.”

According to MaxPreps, Kliewer is averaging 7.8 points per game on the season so far.

The Jaguars then traveled for their first away game of the year, facing the Mountain Vista High School (MVHS) Golden Eagles in MVHS’s gym Dec. 2

Throughout the game, the Eagles and the Jags stayed neck to neck. In the first quarter, the Golden Eagles led 11-10, and led again in the second quarter 27-22.

By the end of the third quarter, MVHS was still in the lead 39-35. However, in the fourth quarter, the Jags scored 19 points, bringing them in the lead. The game ended with a score of 54-49 W.

Lehman led the offensive surge again with a total of 21 points in the game.

“The team can play better defense, and play a better half of [the game]. If we can figure out what to do in the first half and keep doing what we’re doing [for] the second half, we happily finish out games,” Terry said.

With this win, the Jaguars won the “Rock Canyon-Mountain Vista Tournament,” which was hosted by both schools.

The team’s next game will be played against Valor Christian High School (VCHS) at VCHS at 7:00 p.m. Dec. 19. See below for the team’s full schedule.
