As the crowd roars in the jungle during the varsity girls basketball game against Highlands Ranch High School (HRHS), history was made.

Throughout the years of rivalry games with HRHS, the Jags have only had one victory. But, during a home game at 7 p.m. Jan. 11, the victories became two.

The team sprints across the court, spending the first half taking every shot they can. When halftime begins, the score is 35-26, with the Jags in the lead.

During halftime, the girls head into the locker room to continue the rush that started from the game.

The buzzer sounds and it’s time to continue what the team started. Within the third quarter, the Jaguars score 13 more points, going into the fourth quarter with the score tied at 48-48.

During the last quarter, the Jags take the lead, scoring 28 more points, while Highlands Ranch only score 17. Many timeouts are taken, until finally, the game ends with a score of 76-65 W.

Guard Sarah Davis ‘24 is one of the top scorers on the team, scoring 23 points during this game. Davis has been on varsity for three years.

“It felt surreal to win. The game against Ranch is an important game to us all every year, but this year it was a lot more personal. I can say with 100% honesty that there is nothing I wanted more than to win that game. There were a lot of emotions and tears after we won. I honestly felt relieved. My mind was at ease knowing that we showed everyone in that gym they were wrong about us,” Davis said.
