Since Jan. 8, cities near Los Angeles have been in flames due to growing wildfires. The fires’ cause has not been pinpointed, but they continue to rage out of control.
Mandatory evacuations have been implemented for Pasadena, La Canada, Flintridge, Altadena and Sierra Madre. Residents have been forced to find other places to stay with friends, family or gracious hosts.
24 known people have lost their lives to the fires, and 153,000 have been forced to evacuate. Residents have lost homes, assets and businesses.

Three fires are currently still burning. The Palisades Fire is 13% contained, the Eaton Fire is 27% contained, and the Hurst Fire is 89% contained.
Over the five days of fires, a multitude of fundraisers and announcements have been made to supply victims with supplies and money to compensate for all they have lost. Different fundraisers on GoFundMe have been shared across various platforms by citizens and influencers. In addition to these, the Los Angeles Fire Department has asked for donations, the Red Cross is accepting supplies and there are multiple relief funds.
“One of my high school friends, her entire house just burned down,” French teacher Alexis Savas said. “They’re doing a whole GoFundMe, and I think they’ve raised over $50,000 so far.”
US citizens have united to support those affected by the fires in Los Angeles.
