According to Keep America Beautiful, the majority of the trash found on both roads and waterways consists of fast food wrappers and packaging, receipts and plastic beverage bottles. Interact focuses on community/advocacy service and non-profit volunteering. The club has been around for five years and has been passed down in hopes to better the community.
Zoe Dermody ‘27 inherited her role as president; she hopes she can make a lasting impression by helping others remember the positive impact they’ve had on the community.
“I don’t really want them to remember me as much as I just want them to remember all the fundraisers that we did,” Dermody said. “Not just me, but the whole club.”
Through fundraising and volunteering, the interactive club spreads awareness and funds for both community and advocacy services.
Lainey Nalafambi ‘27, the vice president, proves her equally vital role to the club by stepping in during club meetings.
“We primarily focus on doing community service,” Nalafambi said. “We did a fundraiser for the LA fires to help people who were hurt by that, get clean water to Ghana. And then we also made tie blankets for kids in hospitals.”
“Our goal would be having more people involved in the activities that we host outside of school,” Dermody said. “We do a bunch of fundraisers outside of school that we would really like more attendance.”
