BREAKING: All Colorado Schools Closed Through April 17

Governor Jared Polis just announced that all Colorado schools' in-person instruction is suspended through April 17.

In a new executive order March 18, Governor Jared Polis announced that all Colorado schools must suspend in-person instruction until April 17. Douglas County had previously planned to have online instruction March 24-27, and will continue with remote learning.

“While the decision to extend the closure of schools is a necessary precaution, it was a sad decision to hear about,” Courtney Krause ’20 said. “I know it will be a tough month for everyone, and especially for seniors here with their last months of high school totally changed.”

According to the CDC, long closures of school (over eight weeks) can mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

“Available modeling data indicate that early, short to medium closures do not impact the epi curve of COVID-19,” the CDC said in a new memo about considerations for school closures.

Douglas County already planned to be closed March 13-27 and will now extend remote learning.
