BREAKING: Heavy Rain and Flood Warnings at Rock Canyon
Sudden storm conditions affect the school.
August 22, 2022
Sudden heavy rain and flash flood warnings swept through Highlands Ranch from 3:00 p.m. to about 3:45 p.m. Aug. 22.
The weather led to traffic and difficult driving conditions. Flooding in the school’s upper parking lot built up on sidewalks and roads and prevented students and faculty members still at school from leaving the building.
“I really didn’t want to have to go out to my car. I don’t want to get wet, that makes me sad,” Raegan Synk ‘23 said.

According to Keep America Beautiful, the majority of the trash found on both roads and waterways consists of fast food wrappers and packaging, receipts and plastic beverage bottles. Clubs like the National Honor Society (NHS) offer students the opportunity to earn service hours by cleaning up the trash in the parking lots. “[The trash] makes us look very unhygienic and unmotivated to be a proper school,” Emberlyse Vidal ‘28 said. “It makes us look like we just don't care about our students' environments.”](https://rockmediaonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/20260220_1355020-2-1200x904.jpg)
