According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 21 Christen Cassic was arrested for C.R.S 18-6-403 sexual exploitation of a child and C.R.S 18-7-302 indecent exposure.
“Finding out what happened this afternoon left me at a complete loss for words,” a student source, speaking under the condition of anonymity, said. “I have known [Christen] Cassic for three years. He was my AP Computer Science A teacher during my sophomore year.”
Cassic taught in the district for the last seven years. At RCHS, Cassic was a computer science teacher, Technology Student Association (TSA) advisor and previous coach for girls soccer and basketball.
“…Over the last two years, I have worked with him through TSA. He was a dedicated advisor who genuinely seemed to care about his students. As an officer team, we spent a lot of time working alongside him, and the situation is both disturbing and difficult to process,” the source said.
According to reporting by Denver 7, Cassic is being held in the Douglas County Detention Facility on a $150,000 bond.
This afternoon, at 3:02 p.m., RCHS administration emailed parents to inform them that the Douglas County School District does not have reason to believe that a DCSD student was involved.
This is an ongoing investigation, therefore the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and our administration ask that parents or students with more information about the situation contact Kate Morrissey at [email protected].
