Orchestra Concert Recap By Helmsley Farmer

The orchestra program took the stage for their third-quarter concert before their performance at Disney World this upcoming spring break, March 7. With only a few weeks to master these pieces, the Freshman, String, and Chamber orchestras succeeded in producing their concert.

“[This concert is one of their] most challenging repertoire of the entire year,” director Ben Dale said.

Starting off the concert, the Freshman orchestra, consisting of a small ensemble, played three different pieces. Though the majority of the group plays the violin, the viola and cello sections modified their dynamics by playing louder than what was written to help blend and create the balance necessary to create quality sound.

“It is so fun to see how far along the freshman have come just from the beginning of the year until now,” Tess Hopfer ’24 said.

The next group to perform was the String Orchestra. As all three orchestras approach their performance at Disney, the String orchestra got a head start on the music preparation by playing the Disney repertoire at the spring concert.

“I am nervous to perform at Disney because it is a new environment that none of us have ever played in. We also do not have that much time to perform all our songs at the concert,” violinist Elizabeth Schlue ‘24 said.

Lastly, the Chamber orchestra presented the crowd with three pieces ranging from medium to advanced on the JWPepper site.

“I didn’t think we were ever going to pull off some of the repertoires,” Austin Coudeyras ‘22 said.

“Overall, the concert was a success and we are now onto our next performance in Orlando, Florida over Spring Break!” states senior Briannah Miller. Be sure to attend the next quarter’s concert as you will not want to miss all the talent within the three orchestra ensembles.
