Jaguar Football Takes on Smoky Hill High School: Photo Recap

The Jaguars came back to win again after beating Smoky Hill in the playoffs last season.

As the sidelines and packed bleachers scream cheers, the ball lands into number seven’s hands and allows him to run a 49 yard pass touchdown. The varsity football team came back to win against the Smoky Hill High School Buffs for the second year in a row, after their win against them in the first playoff game of the 21-22 season. The Jaguars started the game by scoring a touchdown in the first quarter, but only received 13 points due to the punt being knocked down by the Buffs. The team then fought through the second and third quarters with no new points, but eventually scored a touchdown in the last quarter, making the Jaguars beat the Buffs 26-19.

Running back and wide receiver Dean Chislom ‘23 stares in shock after having his helmet ripped off by a Smoky Hill player Sept. 2. Chisolm was grabbed by fellow Jaguars to stop the Smoky Hill player from starting a fight. “I knew that he was going to be very agitated and aggressive. So the best way to keep him in the game was to hold him back, because I knew that if he was not detained he would have been thrown out of the game, and that would have affected how the game was played out,” fullback David Brabb ‘24 said. The referee threw a flag on the Smoky Hill player for grabbing, and flagged Chisolm for pushing away the Smoky Hill player. “I think that the flag on Dean shouldn't have happened because Dean was right to be agitated, but he didn't like, you know, curse at the player. He didn't attack him, didn't physically touch him. He was very mad about it. And I think that the flag on him was very immature in a way because he deserves to be mad,” Brabb said.

The Jags take on the East High School Angels at Echo Park Stadium at 7 p.m. Sept. 8, after a loss to the Angels last year. Fans are asked to wear neon-colored clothes to show support.
