After earning a position on the State Officer team, Jonathan Duong ‘26 hugs Sen Yakandawala ‘26 following the conclusion of the closing ceremony Feb. 15. Duong will serve as the 2025-2026 State Treasure and aims to provide more resources and connections to small TSA chapters as well as improve navigation for members at events like the state conference. “I was so glad and proud to be there with him,” Yakandawala said. “It was easily one of my favorite moments of the state conference.”

Reports of an ongoing federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice into the Douglas County School District surfaced online earlier this week. DOJ officials visited Douglas County to investigate with community members Jan. 13. “I think this is a good learning opportunity for us to just reflect,” Assistant Principal Kelsi Kraft said. “How can we make sure that we're providing what every single student needs? Not just what most people need."

Varsity Point Guard Cooper Ellwood ‘27 rebounds the ball against ChaparralWolverines Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. During this season, Ellwood averages two steals per game. “I totally feel ourselves coming together as a team, we keep improving every day in practice and I think there are bright things ahead,” Ellwood said.
League rivalry ends in another defeat
Varsity football players run out of the Jaguar tunnel with smoke flying at 7 p.m. at Echo Park Stadium Sept. 20 for the Homecoming football game against Grandview High School ending in a 42-17 loss. After halftime performances from Dance Team and Cheer, Man Poms and Marching Band the seniors organized a new chalkthrow in the student section. “I was pretty fired up, running out of the tunnel is always really fun and it was crazy seeing how many people were in the stands to watch us play even if the end result wasn’t what we had hoped for,” Captain and wide receiver Kai Ingrassia ‘26 said. “ It’s never fun to lose a game, especially Homecoming, but if you can learn something from an experience and do better next time then it wasn’t entirely bad, Grandview is a really good football team and their record didn’t reflect that. We learned a lot of things from a top team in the state that I really believe will help us get significantly better throughout the rest of our season,”

Meyer coached the team for four years and led the team to a 4-7 season record before announcing his retirement Nov. 11. “We had a great four years going 26 to 21. It was a program that was really down, and it took a lot to get to where we are now,” Meyer said.

Finding Hope and Healing
During a lab in Kerry Reilly’s Chem Honors class, Millie Goblirsch ‘27 looks through a spectroscope to examine the emission spectra of a mystery element Nov. 12. Through spectral tubes and flame tests, students were able to discover the wavelengths of different elements and metals via the unique emission spectra that each element produces. “I liked the chem lab because we were able to see how certain elements reacted when energy was added,” Addison Evert ‘27 said. “Many of the flames were unique colors when the metals were added.”
Looking for Light
Ice and snow make it difficult for drivers on the road. During snowstorms, drivers have poor visibility, and frozen roads make it difficult to stay in control. “Driving home from Denver [on Friday], the neighborhoods weren’t plowed. By the time we got back they were only plowing highways. We spun out, nearly got stuck and fishtailed a few different times,” Connor Pugh ‘26 said.

Varsity girls soccer midfielder Leah Sheahan ‘24 hugs a friend during the Senior Night celebrations before the home game against Mountain Vista High School (MVHS) at Echo Park Stadium April 29. During Senior Night, seniors were given flowers and the opportunity to walk out and take pictures with their family as their future plans and favorite memories were announced over the speakers. The Jags tied 0-0, losing the Continental League Championship. “We were obviously the stronger team but just couldn’t find a way to score, but otherwise our connection and our intensity was really high so I’m proud of that. We just have to find the net,” defense midfielder Clara Geuzaine ‘24 said. “[Losing League] wasn’t the best. It’s better than last year and like, I know our team and we are doing really good. I don’t want to jinx it but like hopefully [we’ll do] good [in playoffs].”

Hi, my name is Kishan Vahalia, I’m currently a sophomore at RCHS, and this is my second year on staff. I’m excited to cover the latest news and sports happening in the community. Outside of school, I play basketball, I’m part of FBLA, and I perform magic. I’m a huge L.A. Lakers fan, as well as a Denver Broncos fan. My goal this year is to continue working on my column, “Inside the Stats,” and get recognized by the Colorado Student Media Association (CSMA).
