On Oct. 30, 24 Eco Club members took a tour of the school’s solar panels on the roof. They were guided and taught by an employee from E Light Electric, the company that maintains the school’s solar panels, and learned about how the panels are maintained and cared for. “I was definitely very excited about being on the roof in general,” Eco Club member Olivia Fang ‘26 said. “[It was exciting to] learn more about solar panels and how they work and how they supply energy to our school.”

Man Poms is an annual tradition in which boys from the senior class perform at both the Homecoming Assembly and the Homecoming football game. “I joined Man Poms because it sounded fun and a lot of my friends were doing it, so I went ahead and joined. Also performing in front of the whole school sounded amazing,” Man Poms dancer Nidhay Somanchi ‘25 said. “My favorite part of performing was hyping up the crowd at the football game and at the assembly because it shows our connections with each other and our crazy school spirit.”

Varsity football offensive guard Preston Duman ‘26 and offensive tackle Brodyn Caruso ‘26 face off with Chaparral High School (CHS) Aug. 30 at Echo Park Stadium at 7 p.m. During the game, the team averaged 321 rushing yards according to MaxPreps. “During the game I felt lots of different emotions like the excitement of a home game. I also felt very exhausted cause I played for most of the game,” Duman said.

Varsity swimmer Maxxwell Menzies '24 dives into the water for the 50 yard-freestyle during the finals at A-Leaguges May 4. Menzies was a dual sport athelte this year competing in both the mens swim and dive program in the spring but also has partipated in the Sabercats combined hockey team over the winter.

Bennett has been teaching for a total of four years, with only two of those years spent as a Jag. He hopes after his time as a high school teacher to become a professor. Varsity girls soccer midfielder Leah Sheahan ‘24 hugs a friend during the Senior Night celebrations before the home game against Mountain Vista High School (MVHS) at Echo Park Stadium April 29. During Senior Night, seniors were given flowers and the opportunity to walk out and take pictures with their family as their future plans and favorite memories were announced over the speakers. The Jags tied 0-0, losing the Continental League Championship. “We were obviously the stronger team but just couldn’t find a way to score, but otherwise our connection and our intensity was really high so I’m proud of that. We just have to find the net,” defense midfielder Clara Geuzaine ‘24 said. “[Losing League] wasn’t the best. It’s better than last year and like, I know our team and we are doing really good. I don’t want to jinx it but like hopefully [we’ll do] good [in playoffs].”

In room 4101, Natalie Patterson ‘26, Ariana Magor ‘25 and Celina Salazar ‘25 create a poster in science teacher Kerry Reilly’s Chemistry Honors April 18. The three completed a worksheet and drawing to explain the implosion of a tank for their unit on gas laws. “At the start of class, we watched a video of the tank imploding,” Patterson said. “I think [making a drawing] is something new. I like more artsy activities.”

I like to ride my bike, hang out with friends, build stuff, play tennis, etc. I also like photography, card games/board games, puzzles and origami. I’m excited to work on my social skills, talk with more people and become more confident to talk in front of other people, as well as learn how to interview people and publish content.

Physics teacher Jack Van Natta helps students during Access with an AP Physics lab on Nov. 14. Van Natta has taught his students with many lectures involving fun and interesting examples, such as the rocket lab and many others. “My kids, growing up, would come home and we'd sit down for dinner. They would talk about what happened in class [and] their teachers, and just about something that amazed them. And I wanted to be that teacher,” Van Natta said.

The name, Crypts of Golgotha, was created by their drummer, which they all agreed would be a good name for the band. “Our singer and guitarist's name is Gabe, and I’ve known him since March of 2022. The drummer is his brother, Joaquin, and I’ve known him since last summer,” Dworak said.

This year, finals will take place from Monday, Dec. 18 to Thursday, Dec. 21. “I’m feeling excited to be done with the semester. I got a lot of study guides and materials I can use for my finals,” Dexter said.

It usually depends on the assignment, but I enjoy working in a group because we can all bounce ideas off each other and help everyone understand the subject,” Kohl said.

Bobby Parker '24 starts a game of Texas Holdem with Dharmik Rasineni '24 and Katerina Casas Oct. 9. Parker started Casino Club after seeing how many people attended the After Prom casino last spring. Around three to five students attend the club every other Monday after school. "The best part of Casino Club is probably just hanging out with people and playing card games like poker," Parker said. "Students should join the club because you don't really need to pay for it, it's not very intrusive and anybody can just sit down and start playing without the worry of losing money."
