After earning a position on the State Officer team, Jonathan Duong ‘26 hugs Sen Yakandawala ‘26 following the conclusion of the closing ceremony Feb. 15. Duong will serve as the 2025-2026 State Treasure and aims to provide more resources and connections to small TSA chapters as well as improve navigation for members at events like the state conference. “I was so glad and proud to be there with him,” Yakandawala said. “It was easily one of my favorite moments of the state conference.”

League rivalry ends in another defeat
Varsity football players run out of the Jaguar tunnel with smoke flying at 7 p.m. at Echo Park Stadium Sept. 20 for the Homecoming football game against Grandview High School ending in a 42-17 loss. After halftime performances from Dance Team and Cheer, Man Poms and Marching Band the seniors organized a new chalkthrow in the student section. “I was pretty fired up, running out of the tunnel is always really fun and it was crazy seeing how many people were in the stands to watch us play even if the end result wasn’t what we had hoped for,” Captain and wide receiver Kai Ingrassia ‘26 said. “ It’s never fun to lose a game, especially Homecoming, but if you can learn something from an experience and do better next time then it wasn’t entirely bad, Grandview is a really good football team and their record didn’t reflect that. We learned a lot of things from a top team in the state that I really believe will help us get significantly better throughout the rest of our season,”

Finding Hope and Healing
During a lab in Kerry Reilly’s Chem Honors class, Millie Goblirsch ‘27 looks through a spectroscope to examine the emission spectra of a mystery element Nov. 12. Through spectral tubes and flame tests, students were able to discover the wavelengths of different elements and metals via the unique emission spectra that each element produces. “I liked the chem lab because we were able to see how certain elements reacted when energy was added,” Addison Evert ‘27 said. “Many of the flames were unique colors when the metals were added.”
Looking for Light
Ice and snow make it difficult for drivers on the road. During snowstorms, drivers have poor visibility, and frozen roads make it difficult to stay in control. “Driving home from Denver [on Friday], the neighborhoods weren’t plowed. By the time we got back they were only plowing highways. We spun out, nearly got stuck and fishtailed a few different times,” Connor Pugh ‘26 said.

Varsity girls soccer midfielder Leah Sheahan ‘24 hugs a friend during the Senior Night celebrations before the home game against Mountain Vista High School (MVHS) at Echo Park Stadium April 29. During Senior Night, seniors were given flowers and the opportunity to walk out and take pictures with their family as their future plans and favorite memories were announced over the speakers. The Jags tied 0-0, losing the Continental League Championship. “We were obviously the stronger team but just couldn’t find a way to score, but otherwise our connection and our intensity was really high so I’m proud of that. We just have to find the net,” defense midfielder Clara Geuzaine ‘24 said. “[Losing League] wasn’t the best. It’s better than last year and like, I know our team and we are doing really good. I don’t want to jinx it but like hopefully [we’ll do] good [in playoffs].”

Hello, my name is Ella Heimer. I’m a junior, and this is my first year on staff. In my free time, I like to draw and sing. One of my favorite things to do is go to concerts and see my favorite artists live. I am looking forward to reporting on the sports I am interested in and the events I attend.

Each girl, part of the Reed School of Irish Dance, placed differently as this was a solo round but all recalled and attended the award ceremony at the end of the competition. “A good mentality that I always have is that when I get to a competition I remember I’ve already done the practicing that needed to be done, and now I get to just focus on executing it on stage and having fun,” Soden said.

Varsity wrestling captain and state qualifier Noah Jadd ‘26 talks to former Jags wrestling coach, Tim Hill, before wrestling his final match of the regional tournament at Ponderosa High School Feb. 10. Jadd lost by fall in two minutes and 20 seconds to Ponderosa wrestler Jacob Myers ‘24 and placed second overall in the tournament. Jadd will compete at State at Ball Arena from Feb. 15 to Feb. 17. “It was surreal,” Jadd said. “[It was] a great feeling knowing that all of my work paid off. At some points, I questioned myself, doubting if I was good enough. There was a lot of pressure to make it [to] State, but the feeling of pinning my opponent was great, knowing that I made it.”

No windows were cracked or broken. “When we realized we needed to take shelter, every spot was already taken so we had to huddle with a group under the trees,” Walsh said. “All I could hear was the thunder and people screaming. Everyone was getting pelted on their backs from the hail. It left marks.”
