On Oct. 30, 24 Eco Club members took a tour of the school’s solar panels on the roof. They were guided and taught by an employee from E Light Electric, the company that maintains the school’s solar panels, and learned about how the panels are maintained and cared for. “I was definitely very excited about being on the roof in general,” Eco Club member Olivia Fang ‘26 said. “[It was exciting to] learn more about solar panels and how they work and how they supply energy to our school.”

Man Poms is an annual tradition in which boys from the senior class perform at both the Homecoming Assembly and the Homecoming football game. “I joined Man Poms because it sounded fun and a lot of my friends were doing it, so I went ahead and joined. Also performing in front of the whole school sounded amazing,” Man Poms dancer Nidhay Somanchi ‘25 said. “My favorite part of performing was hyping up the crowd at the football game and at the assembly because it shows our connections with each other and our crazy school spirit.”

Varsity football offensive guard Preston Duman ‘26 and offensive tackle Brodyn Caruso ‘26 face off with Chaparral High School (CHS) Aug. 30 at Echo Park Stadium at 7 p.m. During the game, the team averaged 321 rushing yards according to MaxPreps. “During the game I felt lots of different emotions like the excitement of a home game. I also felt very exhausted cause I played for most of the game,” Duman said.

Varsity swimmer Maxxwell Menzies '24 dives into the water for the 50 yard-freestyle during the finals at A-Leaguges May 4. Menzies was a dual sport athelte this year competing in both the mens swim and dive program in the spring but also has partipated in the Sabercats combined hockey team over the winter.

Ice and snow make it difficult for drivers on the road. During snowstorms, drivers have poor visibility, and frozen roads make it difficult to stay in control. “Driving home from Denver [on Friday], the neighborhoods weren’t plowed. By the time we got back they were only plowing highways. We spun out, nearly got stuck and fishtailed a few different times,” Connor Pugh ‘26 said.

Varsity girls soccer midfielder Leah Sheahan ‘24 hugs a friend during the Senior Night celebrations before the home game against Mountain Vista High School (MVHS) at Echo Park Stadium April 29. During Senior Night, seniors were given flowers and the opportunity to walk out and take pictures with their family as their future plans and favorite memories were announced over the speakers. The Jags tied 0-0, losing the Continental League Championship. “We were obviously the stronger team but just couldn’t find a way to score, but otherwise our connection and our intensity was really high so I’m proud of that. We just have to find the net,” defense midfielder Clara Geuzaine ‘24 said. “[Losing League] wasn’t the best. It’s better than last year and like, I know our team and we are doing really good. I don’t want to jinx it but like hopefully [we’ll do] good [in playoffs].”

With a marker in hand, Sophia Foldery ‘26 writes notes about the events of the Columbian Exchange on a whiteboard in preparation for AP World History: Modern exam May 5. Foldery met with a group of classmates taking the same course to study each unit of the course in preparation for their class final exam and AP exam. AP testing week started on May 6 and continues through May 17, with the AP World History: Modern exam taking place May 15 at 8 a.m. “I’m definitely stressed [about the exam], but I’ve been reviewing a lot of the information to relieve my stress,” Foldery said. “I especially like working with friends, because they usually save me on the topics that I don’t know.”

Through science teacher Jack Van Natta’s telescope, Allie Emery ‘27 observes the solar eclipse during third period April 8. The solar eclipse lasted between 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the maximum partial eclipse taking place around 12:40 p.m. About 65.9% of the sun was covered from the school’s angle. Students watched using pinhole viewers, film glasses, the telescope and more. “It’s just something that you don’t see often and when you get to see it it’s really cool. If you miss it, you got to wait, it takes a while. It’s pretty amazing, so if you wanna come out and see it, I think it’s a good thing to take a break from class,” School Resource Officer (SRO) Mark Adams said.

During Kindness Week, MJ Mejia ‘25 completes her planning work for Peer Counseling during period seven April 2. Kindness Week, which began on April 1 and continues through April 5, is run by student peer counselors. The week encompasses spreading kindness to one another through promoting spirit days, selling kindness grams, organizing a campus clean up, passing out journals and more. “Our goal with Kindness Week is to create a better environment in our school and just spread kindness to our community,” Mejia said. “We just want to make sure that everyone feels appreciated and just find a way to spread kindness around here.”

We are starting off a little rough as we have many new players on varsity and a new coach this season, but we’re starting to get back into our rhythm,” Carland said. “The game against Regis was great. It was awkward as we were missing some of the usual starters, so positions were swapped around, but we still had a great game even if it didn’t end how we wanted it to.”

Ganesh raised the most money in their officer donation bins which led her to be selected for the conference’s “Officer Pie in the Face” event. “I think that the pieing had to be one of my favorite parts of the 2023-2024 State conference, as not only was it a fun and casual event that the members could enjoy, but the funds from the event are being used to create scholarships to send underprivileged chapters to nationals,” Ganesh said.
