On Oct. 30, 24 Eco Club members took a tour of the school’s solar panels on the roof. They were guided and taught by an employee from E Light Electric, the company that maintains the school’s solar panels, and learned about how the panels are maintained and cared for. “I was definitely very excited about being on the roof in general,” Eco Club member Olivia Fang ‘26 said. “[It was exciting to] learn more about solar panels and how they work and how they supply energy to our school.”

Man Poms is an annual tradition in which boys from the senior class perform at both the Homecoming Assembly and the Homecoming football game. “I joined Man Poms because it sounded fun and a lot of my friends were doing it, so I went ahead and joined. Also performing in front of the whole school sounded amazing,” Man Poms dancer Nidhay Somanchi ‘25 said. “My favorite part of performing was hyping up the crowd at the football game and at the assembly because it shows our connections with each other and our crazy school spirit.”

Varsity football offensive guard Preston Duman ‘26 and offensive tackle Brodyn Caruso ‘26 face off with Chaparral High School (CHS) Aug. 30 at Echo Park Stadium at 7 p.m. During the game, the team averaged 321 rushing yards according to MaxPreps. “During the game I felt lots of different emotions like the excitement of a home game. I also felt very exhausted cause I played for most of the game,” Duman said.

Varsity swimmer Maxxwell Menzies '24 dives into the water for the 50 yard-freestyle during the finals at A-Leaguges May 4. Menzies was a dual sport athelte this year competing in both the mens swim and dive program in the spring but also has partipated in the Sabercats combined hockey team over the winter.

Ice and snow make it difficult for drivers on the road. During snowstorms, drivers have poor visibility, and frozen roads make it difficult to stay in control. “Driving home from Denver [on Friday], the neighborhoods weren’t plowed. By the time we got back they were only plowing highways. We spun out, nearly got stuck and fishtailed a few different times,” Connor Pugh ‘26 said.

WayLessSad is aiming to collaborate with Better Help and make its own hotline to be there for those who need immediate help. “Eventually I'd like to have in-house psychiatrists and psychologists that you can talk to on call whenever you need,” TeSelle said.

Varsity girls soccer midfielder Leah Sheahan ‘24 hugs a friend during the Senior Night celebrations before the home game against Mountain Vista High School (MVHS) at Echo Park Stadium April 29. During Senior Night, seniors were given flowers and the opportunity to walk out and take pictures with their family as their future plans and favorite memories were announced over the speakers. The Jags tied 0-0, losing the Continental League Championship. “We were obviously the stronger team but just couldn’t find a way to score, but otherwise our connection and our intensity was really high so I’m proud of that. We just have to find the net,” defense midfielder Clara Geuzaine ‘24 said. “[Losing League] wasn’t the best. It’s better than last year and like, I know our team and we are doing really good. I don’t want to jinx it but like hopefully [we’ll do] good [in playoffs].”

In room 4101, Natalie Patterson ‘26, Ariana Magor ‘25 and Celina Salazar ‘25 create a poster in science teacher Kerry Reilly’s Chemistry Honors April 18. The three completed a worksheet and drawing to explain the implosion of a tank for their unit on gas laws. “At the start of class, we watched a video of the tank imploding,” Patterson said. “I think [making a drawing] is something new. I like more artsy activities.”

Since 2016, a member of the senior class has painted a mural for the year to let future students know about a defining moment from that school year, with this year focusing on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI). “AI really changed the way we do our school work and impacted our ethical views so I felt it was a perfect choice for the mural,” Mellor said.

Lauryn Wilkey ‘26 uses the claw machine in an attempt to win tickets to spend on various prizes such as candy, toys, electronics, and more at Main Event March 6. Rock Canyon’s Student Council (StuCo) held Wish Week events such as Main Event to raise money for this year’s Wish Kid, Kiki. StuCo collected 20% of the sales from Main Event to go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “I’m here to support our school and Kiki while also trying to have some fun and win prizes, as most people are,” Wilkey said.

Baker’s card said “Are you my Cones? Because you put color into my life,” relating to the cones in eyes that allow eyes to see color. “Psych is a very hard class but it feels great to take a break, especially after taking a quiz to enjoy a fun assignment with my friends,” Baker said.

Student Council wrapped up the year with a final speech, talking about school activities such as the Back to School Dance, Homecoming week, assemblies, Wish Week and Prom. “I love giving speeches at assemblies because of the roar of the crowd and the positive response from all of the students,” Rubin said. “It was awesome being Student Council President this year and being able to lead some of the best events that Rock Canyon has put together.”

During the assembly, Student Council announced that the school raised $60,992.33, granting seven more Wishes in addition to Fidel’s Wish. “I think this Wish Week was so much fun. The decorating was awesome and it was super great to see Fidel involved this year,” Coddington said. “Decorating the pods for Fidel’s Wish was great, and seeing his reaction to the [Charlotte] Hornets pod was cool and worth the whole process.”
